E-MacIntosh, or “”English””-MacIntosh, blades are the most popular laryngoscope blade style outside of the United States.

The design, while heavily based on the original MacIntosh Blade, differs in several ways.

First, the E-Mac curve is more continuous from the proximal end to the distal end. This improves the lifting mechanics.

Second, the overall length is increased to facilitate intubation in patients with an anterior larynx.

Finally, the profile or height of the instrument has been reduced to facilitate intubation in patients with limited oral access.
